She is a very pretty girl and has a kind face. It will be nice for you to ride out on her until Henry is ready. |

Gosh! She's beautiful! How amazing that she let you get on her back like that- she's going to be great by the sounds of it! I'm jealous- my boy is too young for me to ride- its not fair!! |

Unfortunatley pearl is going back at the weekend she is foot sore if you trot on the road, her sole is lower than the hoof. I can't get shoes fitted as there are no farriers who will do the big ones i dont know what ill do with henry in the future i may get another cob for my self i have been looking at a couple ill keep you informed |

Have I understood correctly that you are not allowed to shoe a horse in the U.K unless you are a qualified farrier... ? Mine has always been plagued with soreness too...definately likes shoes best yes. Difficult to get hold of farriers here too, although thats nothing to do with size. Ive done it (shoeing) myself (reluctantly) a few times, and have had a farrier with me watching on. |

Nick you are right, farriers have to be licensed and fully certificated but I know there are those who trim feet under the supervision of a qualified farrier.
How sad for Pearl. |

I have spoke to the heavy horse centre they are 1 hour from me and the guy who comes to them is in blackpool i think. There is someone in penrith but again 1 hour without the box on and i am not willing to pay the travel it will end up being 150-200 i will have to rethink when henry is older |

Also try Cumbrian Heavy Horses (trekking centre). They're in Millom and I know their farrier lives only a mile or 2 from the yard. I've even hacked past his house from theirs!
Good luck. |

what a shame, you may have to invest in some "old mac boots" when Henry is older, mind am not sure how big they make them xx |

I am still struggling with Samson being footsore. No they do not make Old Macs (or any other bleedin boot for that matter!) in anything bigger than 7 inches (wide or long) am looking into getting some custom made ones from 'Hoofwings' but they are very expensive and I am not confident that having so much feather will not irratate him having a strappy bit over his pasterns |
