That is a rope halter Flyingshire and my goodness the horse must be very calm to let you ride bareback and with no other form of control. Not so sure I would do that. Laughing A head collar is a piece of kit made from webbing, which is similar to a bridle but does not have a bit. They are mostly used for tying horse to rails and stuff like that. We do show mares in rope head collars over here but apart from that I dont think they are used much nowadays. My granddad always lead his shires on a rope head collar.

There are photos of Ratface's Clydie on this thread.

She is going to see him again in a few hours but I suspect she will be buying him. He looks lovely don't you think?

Many thanks for the explanation Lizzy! Now I understand what a headcollar is!
I always ride Gideon in this rope halter. Me and Gideon work on our relationship every day and I strive for a good teamwork!
Sometimes we ride without anything…

Ohhh Very Happy what a beautiful Clydesdale! Happy Ratface, hope she be a Clydesdale owner then!
It would be very interesting to see some picture and information about you all shirehorses!
Please show me!

Hope you understand my confused English??!

That photo has made the hairs on the back of my neck and arms stand on end. What a totally beautiful horse and a wonderful photo. What trust you have in each other. I have got quite a lump in my throat Flyingshire. How on earth to you get him to go where you want him to without anything to steer him? Do you know anything about his breeding?
Your English is superb, so dont worry.
Lots of photos on the photo gallery of the forum. If you go to the home page you will find it there.

Another beautiful photograph! You are very brave to ride without anything to hold onto! You obviously do have a very good relationship with Gideon -what a wonderful beast he is!!

I haven't got round to posting photos on this blog because I don't know how!! Must read the instructions! However there are some photos on my blog - link below.

Your English is excellent, by the way!

Hi flyingshire , you have two lovely looking horses. I like very much the natural way you ride your horses. In England nowadays you can not do anything that does not involve health and safety .I am just about to get my first ever horse, and will try and ride my horse in the forest near me, just as you are, natural!!!!. Welcome to this forum, and please put some more pictures on , they are great.

your English isn't a problem at all - so don't worry

I'm hoping to ride my young shire bareback one day - he follows me everywhere, so I'm hoping that because we'll have known each other from when he was very young, that we can get that trust.

Your pictures look amazing, and yes, my hairs have stood up and I have goose bumps - words can't describe how amazing you both look!!

Haha Very Happy , What a nice explain of your reaction on the photo Lizzy!
I steer him when a use my hips, legs and pelvic bone. The stop signal is very strongly fortified, and Gideon is very keen on my signals.

Ok, Gideons name is Arclid Gideon, sire: Oxton Loose Valley, dam: Brows Marie

I’ve to tell you Ossie and Tracey, Aim not brave! Embarassed

Me and Gideon started to known each other four years ago. In the beginning we worked from ground, he needed to learn respect my area/bubble, and I have to do the same for him, show mutual understanding!
Then, slowly but surely, we started to work whit pressure and concession. I don’t, know if I use the right words for this, but I hope you understand? After a couple of month I ride him, first very slowly and inside the barn we build up trust and more confidence ! After a while I’ve got sense of balance and the body language got more exact even up on his back.

Hi andrwseav! Thank you for the nice words of my shires!
So nice you soon have your own shire!!!
For me and Gideon it have take many hours, days, month and even year to build up a strong relationship/confidence between each other, and the best part is, that you never get complete learned! I am learning new things every day of my shires!
Ok, I’ve many photos of my shires, her is one, Gideon and Elli playing!

Morph Sounds like you and your horse are one the right way!
That is a good opportunity to get known each other from the beginning, when the horse is young. It is so much you can do with the young horse before you can riding and driving.

Oh my goodness me your photos get better, if that is possible. Just look at the condition of Gideon and Elli, they are superb and once again my breath has been taken away but the share beauty of them both. You certainly know how to look after heavy horses Flyingshire. I am in awe and I rarely say that.

Morph:
Yes, that is our house. We build and renovate the house this year, that’s because, is no door upper floor, my husband is building new doors.
The house is a typical Swedish old house on the country side, the name in Swedish is Torp!

Lizzy:
Aim glad you think Gideon and Elli looking good! In the future, I will have them like a pair in front of a beautiful wagon.

Tracey:
Yes, aim working in a half-time job like a photographer!

Little Elli and her even more little friend!
