Andrew (where I keep my horses), posted this on facebook. I haven't written my own poem yet, but I will in time. I thought it was lovely, although it has set me off again this morning:
I'll lend you for a little while
My grandest Shire, He said
For you to love while she's alive
And mourn for when she's dead.
It may be one or thirty years,
Or days or months, you see.
But, will you, till I take her back,
Take care of her for me?
She'll bring her charms to gladden you,
And should her stay be brief,
You'll have treasured memories
To bring solace in your grief.
I cannot promise she will stay,
Since all from earth return.
But, there are lessons taught on earth
I want this shire to learn.
I've looked the wide world over
In my search for teachers true.
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes
With trust I have selected you.
Now will you give her your total love,
Nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate Me when I come
To take her back again?
I know you'll give her tenderness
And love will bloom each day.
And for the happiness you've known
Forever grateful stay.
But should I come and call for her
Much sooner than you'd planned,
You'll brave the bitter grief that comes
And someday understand. |

I went to fetch Kizzy this afternoon, and although we're scattering her ashes on Saturday, I felt it was right to do some today aswell.
The box is that big, and that heavy, that there's enough...
As I got up to the top of the hill, the sun came out, and there was a rainbow coming from the clouds that stopped in the sky - it was a straight rainbow, and didn't start or end on the ground.
It was very apt, and my baby girl is a sunbeam, or a rainbow.....or both! The other horses were far over the other side of the field, so we were alone together. Afterwards, they came over, and Angel walked up to me for a fuss - it was very strange not seeing Kizzy there today, and the hardest part wasn't collecting her, but going back to the field where it all happened.
I'm glad she's free from pain, and I'm glad I made that decision quickly, rather than making her suffer any longer than necessary. We gave it a good go with the painkillers, but I couldn't bear to see her like that, it just wasn't fair. She was tired, and the pain was changing her, and that just wasn't right.

I have been re-writing this message for ages and cant really find the right words.
You did the right thing and the rainbow/sunbeam was sure to be Kizzy, and that is how you will remember her everytime you see a rainbow from now on.
I love her kissable nose in this pic. YOu must have kissed it so many times, remember those times too.

She is beautiful and her beauty lives on. Tears again while I was reading your words because I feel as though she is/was part of my family. For what it's worth I think you made the decision at the right time, once pain changes horses I think that it's kinder to say goodbye. xx |

Kizzy – My gentle giant
A shire is a gentle beast
Who commands respect and love
You were that beast, that gentle girl
So frequently misunderstood
Inch by inch you made your way
Into my heart you see
That’s where you stayed, I had no choice
Loved for all eternity
We took our time, we didn’t rush
There didn’t seem the need
We got to know each other
There was no need for speed
Your trusting eyes I could soon read
They were soft with love the most
There were times when we might disagree
And then we’d move the goal post
Sometimes you feared the unknown world
When I tried to get that ask
But my lovely girl, you need to know
It never was a tiresome task
Each stage we passed, each hurdle jumped
Was an achievement for us both
We always did it together
And together we enjoyed that growth
I know there’s no need to change a thing
We rode, we laughed, we cried
When retirement came upon you
Neither of us seemed to mind
The last few months were bittersweet
We fought with all our might
To make sure you were blooming
Happy, safe and bright
We tried to beat the ailments
We thought we could beat them all
But when the time came, it wasn’t to be
And soon they would make you cripple and fall
We will not dwell on the last few days
They are hard enough to bear
Instead we’ll think of the wonderful times
And probably shed a tear
Kizzy you are a wonderful shire
The best that I could wish for
I’ll miss our moments, we partnered well
In life, you were never a chore
There is an empty void to fill
As you left this world without me
My darling girl what do I do….
Go on, whilst you run free
That sunbeam, that rainbow, which lit up the sky
Will always remind me of you
You’re well, you’re free, now the pain has gone
And I know you can see me too |

I want to thank everyone for their support on this lovely forum
It's been a hard few days, and it's good to know you are all here.
I stayed with Kizzy until the very end, which wasn't easy, but I promised her I wouldn't leave her.
I know it's also been hard for Tracy, as it wasn't long ago that she lost Ruby, so I also appreciate her thoughts when faced with her own grief
You are all very wonderful - thank you xx |

Beautiful tribute.
I so much wanted to say 'now is the time' on Saturday night, but it had to come from you, and I knew you would do the right thing for your girl. I knew you deserved the trust she put in you. Well done.
I firmly believe that rainbow was for you to see. |

Claire and I have been chatting via Facebook which is why you haven't seen a response from me on here (just in case anyone was wondering!)
Your poem is beautiful Claire - tears again. Your beautiful girl will really appreciate that x
... and thank you Claire for your thoughts of Ruby; you know how I am feeling about her and I hope to be able to post my own "Gone but never forgotten" tribute to her too. She will be annoying Kizzy right now! |

I knew it was time on Saturday night too HF, but I had to wait until Sunday, just in case....
I hope Kiz doesn't get too angry with Ruby Tracy, she's not a "people person" (that's if she were a person!!!) Looking forward to seeing your tribute. My poem had me teary eyed at work, as I wrote it this afternoon
I'm sure they're all running free - Cara aswell
And by the way Lizzy, you know I appreciate you too - thanks for talking to me on Sunday xx |

Oh poop I am in floods again. It is just wonderful and she is the most beautiful girl Claire. How on earth we ever get over losing such incredible animals is beyond me. I have only just found this by the way. Huge hugs to you and now I need to go and get another tissue. xxx |
