Hi has anyone heard or used Potassium permangernate for sunburn .
I am struggling with stopping the sunburn despite putting it on him twice and day wearing a full face mask . Apparently you paint it on the pink/white muzzle and it goes purple , stopping the sun burn .
Any thoughts.

Thanks for the replies , he is having total sun block for horses the Nettex one on twice a day and he is wearing a Cashel long nose full face mask. Not sure what else to do .
Bringing him in during the hottest part of the day is not an option .

My boy gets terrible sunburn and sometimes I haven't even notice it be a sunny day!
All I do is really layer on baby's nappy cream, that usually does the trick.
Or you can buy the sunblock sticks that skiers use for when they're on the slopes, this also works wonders!
Hope this helps

any ideas for getting something to block sunburn on my mare who hates creams on her face / ears..?? Laughing I've heard she might object less to aloe vera gel?

Hi I think I have the answer to my problem . I have found a web site that sells a really good sun gaurd that fits on to a field safe head collar . it arrived today and Marli doesnt seem to object to wearing it at all . It covers right around his nose and mouth so no need for sunblock. The web site is NagHorseRanch.com .Looks a bit like a sun visor.
They are in America, but postage was really cheap and arrived with the week.
Typical its rained all weekend so now has mud fever , at least I know how to deal with that one.
